Dinner Time!

Progressive Dinner is Saturday night! Be at the church and ready to go by 4:45 p.m. So far Pastor Tom and Mrs. Pastor Tom (ha!) have offered their vans. I will have a van with four empty seats. Any more van drivers? Remember if you are driving yourself, fine. If you are carting other folks, I need to hear from their parents by e-mail, phone or note.

Don't forget your white elephant gifts!

Great Response!

Because our general office is being remodeled, one of the teachers lost her classroom temporarily and uses mine fifth period when I am on prep. Today they were working on grammar and the teacher made a generalization that a sentence was a sentence as long as it had a subject and a verb. One boy who sits in the back has made it clear all semester that he's a believer. He shouts out, how about "Jesus wept?" Is that a sentence? The teacher said "Yes! saves is a verb, so what is 'Jesus'?" The young man examined the board for a few seconds and shouted, "My Savior!" She and I both had to laugh. He looked at me triumphantly and I mouthed, "Good answer."

I love to see this kind of event take place. The Holy Spirit is at work everywhere and today he put the correct answer in the mouth of one of us.

Spiritual development activities

I had a few interesting (and encouraing) conversations about our spiritual development lessons. The parents dig what we're doing, but I know a few of you are still a little timid about writing down what you really feel. No one, and I mean no one will see what you write on your worksheets, but me (and of course other adult leaders like Pete, Kim or Chere, if I invite their input). I don't ask for information out of some strange desire to see where you fall short. I encourage you to take part and be brutally honest. I want to know how I can help you in your development.

Start today...

Here are a few ways you can jump start your development. The women's ministry team already has a mentor program in place that they have invited girls to use. They will pair you up with one of the ladies and keep in touch. Rachael had some nice lunches and shopping outings with some of the ladies and enjoyed the time very much. They would love to be a part of your efforts to grow spiritually. Girls, you are cordially invited to attend the Mini-Retreat coming up Saturday February 26 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at our church. Speakers and activities are part of a fun and spiritual experience.

Check out their activities on the calendar on their blog at http://www.ebcwomensministries.blogspot.com/.

The Iron Men have made it clear that they very much want to include Next Level guys in their activities. I have been to several church prayer breakfasts in our church and others that have been excellent times of fellowship, study, and prayer. Guys need to be with other guys and discuss spiritual guy stuff. This Saturday they are hosting a prayer breakfast at the church at 7:30 a.m. You should get out of bed and get over there. God will certainly bless your effort.

Finally, please take a second to click an answer in my little survey on the right. It will give me an idea about where you are as a group. Just answer once please.

I look forward to hearing from you.

In Christ

The 411 on Driving for Dinner

I checked out church policy on individual drivers, and apparently it is all right for individuals to drive themselves. Still, I would appreciate knowing that your parents are okay with y'all riding in one another's cars. So, if you are riding with a buddy I would like a call, a note, or an e-mail stating permission before I will allow it. I owe your folks that much prudence. I know you think it's too much but you will have kids of your own someday. :)

Team Building Video

We had a great time at Next Level Team Building II last night. We missed a lot of you who had school functions. In a few months we can do Next Level Team Building III! Here's a short video of the fun. Check it out!

Should this go up to YouTube? Let me know. I won't upload if any parents or kids object.

No Next Level Tonight!

Hey Gang:
As per EBC policy, we will have no Next Level when we cancel in Monroe County. I have subscribed to WISH-8, WTHR-13, and WTIU-30 (5 in some areas) so you can check in the morning to see if we have cancelled. It should be flashing now. WISH will cancel my mesage at 10 a.m., WTHR at 11 a.m. and WTIU at 12 p.m.. You can check there from now on. I look forward to seeing you next week.
If you have time today, see if you can help an older neighbor (single mom, disabled person, anyone who needs help) shovel snow off their porch or sidewalk. You don't need to make a big deal of it, just show up and do it. They'll appreciate it and your reward is in heaven.
Snow Day to be Outside!
