Wednesday night

I'd like to get together Wednesday night and just play. We might even be able to make it a movie night depending on how late your parents will let you stay out. I'd like to show How to Train Your Dragon. It's a lot of fun and appropriate for the building and all ages. Pizza after? What do you think? Get those e-mails in and we'll decide. Or we could just play in the gym.

Peace

Classes finished

I wanted to thank all of you who prayed for me and encouraged me as I struggled to hold it all together with all those classes. I finished Dec. 22 and I don't have another exam until February. I am thankful for good health and for snow days (no kidding, they could not have come at better times). I hope this will free me up to get us started with our Romans study and the leadership opportunities we talked about last semester. You're the best. I love you and hope you have a desire for spiritual growth this year.

Parents' Night Out

Hey Gang:

Emmanuel Women's Ministry, Next Level Ministries, and Iron Men will be sponsoring "Parents Night Out Dec. 3. We will be watching kids, leading games, and serving snacks for three hours while parents chill, Christmas shop or go on the date they haven't been on since 1990. I need responsible people to help out. Clear your calendars for this event. Maybe we can stay and play after they head home. Think about it!

No Leaf Raking

Hey Gang:

Due to low attendance, we'll have to cancel the leaf-raking thing. I'm unsure as to whether we'll be able to reschedule. Rhanks to those of you who were planning to come.

That makes three!

Congratulations on a great Fall Festival!

We have received good reviews from lots of parents, We made improvements and they noticed. Our parents were great and some who weren't parents who showed up and jumped in to help were also great. I particularly want to thank Chere who was trapped in the kitchen with the prize window and took care of the craziness of that job. Thanks to security people and thanks to Dale for setting up the gym for us. We have a lot more people to thank but mostly Jesus, whom we asked to send the children and He did. Pray that the gospel presentations they heard will produce fruit.
Now let's all rest us up for the Leaf Festival! I love you guys. Thanks for helping me see this dream through each year.

This is it!

Hey Gang!
This is the big week. Our final push will begin shortly to gather candy, get games together and pray for God's intervention in bringing children. At least part of the time (if not all the time) Wednesday will be spent in preparation. Starting Monday, our commercials will start on Spirit 95. I included a sample you can hear for yourself. I had to add images to make it a video. It's just clipart with a goofy effect. Enjoy!

Need your help

Hey Gang:

After the meetings, Chere and I have had to stay fairly late to clean up. Several of you are leaving a mess behind and heading out the door. We need you to stay and assist in the clean-up duties we agreed to complete. We could get a sign-up sheet and make it all official or you could just do the right thing and pitch in by cleaning up around the tables and volunteering to run the vacuum occasionally. I know you need to get home and believe me so do I. Let's make light work with many hands and let's project a positive witness by doing it before we're asked. I knew you'd understand.

Van Drivers needed

Hey Guys:

Next week is the 13th and we need some van drivers to help us go out into the neighborhoods and leave fliers at doors. If your folks can help drive, that would be a huge help. We need to get the word out soon.

Thanks

It's October!

Okay, gang. It's October and life is really going to be getting heated up for those of us organizing. We have the candy donation bin set up in the church lobby, so whenever you can, bring candy in and encourage others to do so too. Mrs. Meier and Chere are making some nice cloth banners to hang in the gym and I think Peter is already thinking up new games. We have a lot of the games built already so much of the setup will be decorations and balloon inflation etc. We'll be needing help when the time comes. Speak with your folks about helping out with security and supervision. I will be counting the bodies. Also, Wednesday Oct 13. we'll be using our Next Level time to hit the neighborhoods to leave door hangers. We need van drivers (and vans) to maximize that time. Keep in touch!

Fall Festival Prep

Hey Gang:
I sent out an e-mail that you have, no-doubt, seen and I wanted to get the blog out too. We are hoping to get donations of physical items as well as monetary support from our church to help us with a lower budget number. The items we are requesting are

* Candy
(preferably without "Halloween-ie" labels,

* 10-12" balloons,

* A helium tank
(for the balloon archway)

* Gift certificates
for Frostys or McDonald's treats etc.

* Ads

$12-14 per 30-second spot on Spirit 95 We will also negotiate with
secular stations and let you know...

* Pizza
for the set up night

* Financial Consideration (money)

*24 Responsible good-looking Adults
Fortunately all our parents qualify. (security, registration, supervision)

We also will be skipping the on-site radio broadcast in lieu of advertising. We basically were paying $250 for ads and $250 for the broadcast. If we just purchase ads at the $12-14 rate, we can get sponsorships for a block of ads or just single ads.

We are hoping that folks who want to get involved will find one of these categories an agreeable way to participate. Speaking of participation, we also need at least 24 parents for registration and security. We will also need parents with vans to help out with our door-to-door outreach about two weeks prior (watch for dates!).

Keep your eyes on this blog in the coming weeks!

Thanks, Audrey and Alex's Parents!

I want to thank Audrey and Alex's folks for hosting our annual pool and birthday party. I hope y'all know I named them by saying "Audrey and Alex's parents" because online I don't want to identify anyone too specifically. You never know who may come along and read the blog. ANYWAY, we had a blast and it was a perfect day to cool off in the pool. Thanks so much for your hospitality. We all felt so welcome at your home.

Try to be there at or around 6:30 p.m. and tell your folks to pick you up at 8:30 p.m. unless you have your own transport.

Hey Swimmers
Audrey J.'s mom provided directions to the party which I will e-mail to you for their security's sake. If you know of someone coming to NLM who hasn't signed up on the e-mail list please pass this info along. In addition to a towel, Audrey's Mom requests you bring your own "camp chair" to the pool. Next Level Girls three-peat

Hey Gang!
Rachael won "Best Camper" at Camp Good News this summer making it three Next Level girls in a row to win it! Two years ago it was Audrey , followed by Kayla ,and this year Rachael won it. Best camper is chosen by the counseling staff for excellent behavior, active participation, and a selfless attitude in putting others first throughout the week. We can't help but be a little proud of our gals from Emmanuel who know that sometimes the best Bible people read is their witness. Here's a little shot we took after the awards ceremony with Rachael, Kayla, Hannah and Sophie. Congratulations on successful camping for everyone who attended, including our Emmanuel volunteers in the kitchen (Emily P. and Audrey P.) and Olivia S. was a Counselor-in-Training this year.
I'm hearing good reports from Andrea M., Cade C. and Caleb K. about positive camp experiences at Spring Hill and Twin Lakes and next week I know of at least one heading out soon (Caroline M.) and we hope she has a blast as well. Y'all keep in touch.

Something to consider

Hey Gang:
Leadership has a proposal that could help us with our size problem once school starts again.
The plan would involve giving us the auditorium for Wednesday nights with the possibility of using the foyer area just outside the door.
We would have a more comfortable, cool, seating area, plenty of access to multimedia, and when guests come, we wouldn't need a shoe horn to get them into the room. Some downsides would include losing your "hang-out time" in the room upstairs as AWANA will be making use of the adjoining room. It could be a win-win for AWANA and Next Level Ministries. Pray about it. It seems to be up to us at this point.

Whew! Great Work! Thanks!

The final count for one and a half hour's work is 47 people showing up for work and 300 food boxes for needy folks in our community and neighboring towns.
The folks were impressed by your hard work and I was proud to be there when they kept looking at me with that "wow" look on their faces.
What I hope you took away from this is how important the poor were to Jesus when He walked he earth and how He reminded us that we would "have them with us always". Your labor helped the Hoosier Hills Food Bank show compassion. We should be all about this.
I am also happy to hear from so many of you that you enjoyed the work and want to do it again. That could be arranged! We shold ask how we can be a blessing to people in our own church also.

Hey Gang:
I have not received a cancellation from the Hoosier Hills Food Bank yet so I think we're still on for Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. You can assume we're on unless I hear an update from the food bank. I will call them Monday. Remember to dress appropriately for handling food. No open-toed shoes. T-shirts and jeans should suffice. Be at the site and ready to go at 6:30 p.m. We will finish by 8:00 p.m. to give us time to get people back to the church for AWANA completion. Some of you have younger family members involved in AWANA. Let's glorify God in this effort to help those in need.

What do you call a potato that throws up a lot?
A regurgitater

What do you call a helpful potato?

A facilitater

I have a million more! I want you to send your best Potato Joke. Remember, the set up is half the joke. Make sure your punchline ends in -tater or -tator. I will put together a slide show of the best with the name below.

Red Cross called...

Today the Red Cross called about doing a blood drive at the church. As you'll recall they wanted to do one last year and dropped the ball on scheduling at the last minute. They called back today and are looking at dates in June. If we get approval for use of the facility and a solid group who want to work, we can start letting the neighborhoods know that we will be sponsoring the blood drive at the church so lots of people can be a part of shoring up the blood supply. The spring and summer months are times when the blood supply is hardest hit. I very much would like to help these folks help others. It's also an opportunity to be a light to the community and get them inside our doors. Think about it. Details will come as time progresses.

Shoveling Global Warming

Hey Gang:
I had another snowday today and right after I received my text message from WISH-TV I received one from Austin. My wife and I laughed and fired one back that said "Go back to bed, Austin!" I spent a majority of my day shoveling the effects of global warming off my driveway (I'm kiddin') In fact, yesterday one of the architects of the IPCC documents telling the world that it's melting admits it hasn't warmed since 1995 and that he cannot lay hands on any documentation that Al Gore used for his famous "Hockey Stick" graphic. In fact we are as close as we've been to knowing for sure that we may have been hoaxed into believing we caused the climate to change (a point the same scientist now admits he could never prove). What else has the climate ever done but change? We have also learned that polar bears are on the increase, not the decrease, that the ice sheet at the south pole has 30 percent more ice than before and that north pole ice is at 1978 levels (when many of the same scientists warned of "global cooling").
   The jig is up.
There's a great lesson here for the world, but I'll settle for young, good-looking Christians. God is in control. He controls everything. E V E R Y T H I N G... there is no SAVE THE PLANET. If it is to be saved, God will save it.  Check out Isaiah 45:5-8

Isa 45:5 "I am the LORD, and there is no other; Besides Me there is no God. I will gird you, though you have not known Me; 6 That men may know from the rising to the setting of the sun That there is no one besides Me. I am the LORD, and there is no other, 7 The One forming light and creating darkness, Causing well-being and creating calamity; I am the LORD who does all these. 8 "Drip down, O heavens, from above, And let the clouds pour down righteousness; Let the earth open up and salvation bear fruit, And righteousness spring up with it. I, the LORD, have created it.

God is not some helpless bystander biting his nails whimpering, "Gee Whiz, I hope no one forgets to recycle!"   The fact is, we are to be good stewards of the earth, taking care of it and trying to make the best of the blessings God created in it. We are not, however, to worship it. We do not favor snowy owls over people, we do not take people's land because an insect lives there, we do not put God's most favored creation for which His blessed son died second to a critter. It's wrong no matter what your politics are. Man is to have dominion over animals (Gen. 1:28), not the other way around. Don't get caught up in the politics of earth worship. God made the earth for man not man for the earth. We are not polluting the world with our exhalation unless we exhale blasphemy against the Holy One and His word. We sweeten the atmosphere when we speak kindness, encouragement, and the love of Christ. When we melt the coldness of rejection, and lead those who are lost to the light of Jesus Christ, however, that's the kind of global warming we could all use.
In Christ,
Fearless Leader

Snow cancellations wired

 Hey Gang:
I applied for access to the WISH-TV 8, WRTV-TV 6 and WTIU 5 weather notification centers. At this point WTIU and WISH have approved my request. I expect WRTV to follow suit. If you have questions about whether we'll be meeting for Next Level Minstries, tune in and watch the bottom of your screen. The announcement will say NEXT LEVEL MINISTRIES. I know, cool, right? So...if the weather gets nasty, check the blog, check your e-mail or just grab the remote and tune in to 5, 6, or 8 and watch the bottom of your screen. You can also go to their website and see a list there or (I love this part) you can sign up on their automatic texting notification and get a text that Next Level is cancelled! Ha. I'm still geeking out over it. Ahem, anyway. I hope that helps.

No Next Level Meeting tonight

Sorry, Levelheads. Tonight's meeting is cancelled as per Emmanuel Baptist Church policy on weather cancellations. When MCCSC cancels classes because of weather, Next Level Ministries as well a s AWANA are cancelled. I know that some of you are in other school districts and home or private schools. It doesn't matter. Them's the breaks. I am glad that you miss it and are disappointed. That says a lot. I look forward to seeing you.
Also, I have been thinking, would you like to meet online at times like this for group discussions? Through MSN Live Messenger (a free program), we can set up a "room" where we could all talk or share devotional time. What do you think?

Super Bowl Sunday

Well, once again we have been taken to the edge and dropped. The Super Bowl had us all so up in arms that we were talking about it this morning before church, during church, and I dare say after church. Our beloved Colts would take us to another world championship. A championship that would overshadow the day set aside for the Lord.
Oh yeah, I watched it. Every minute, every play right to the part when Peyton Manning reran the hapless error that cost Brett Favre and the Packers their shot at the Vince Lombardi Trophy. I was unreasonably upset and undoubtedly disappointed in something that in the scheme of life didn't amount to a hill of beans (frankly, I'd rather have a hill of beans).
Now I rembember why I stopped watching IU basketball. It was another disappointing evening for the Hoosiers and I had shouted and griped my way through another frustrating 40 minutes of basketball which made my children wonder who this crazy man was in their living room and what had he done with their father. As I lay in my bed, losing sleep and looking up at the ceiling, the still, small voice we all know we will hear (after having behaved badly) inquired as to why I would allow anything but the Holy Spirit to move me so dramatically. In fact, did the Holy Spirit move me so dramatically? I pretty much gave it up. I'd guess I haven't watched six halves of IU basketball in 10 years. This season I watched a record three whole Colts games. Apparently, it was enough to lead me to believe they now owed me a Super Bowl Trophy. I felt those old familiar passions again. I felt the extreme disappointment and even anger at having been let down again when I had sat at the LCD altar and paid my tithe of three hours of my life.
Now, it's all over. I have once again been let down. What did I expect?
Let's remember that devotion to anything but the Lord is folly. It's okay to be a football fan, but to allow the devotion to team to stand in your way of dveotion to your Lord is a step onto the wrong path. Ask yourself, if we had scheduled church this evening, would you have come or skipped it for the game? Whatever you put before your God, becomes your god.
I hope the people of New Orleans enjoy their victory and give God the glory for this bright spot in he midde of a world of troubles. I hope they thank Him for the restoration that has come from Him after he demonstrated his power in a windstorm. I hope they will use their moment in the sun to glorify him. What I truly hope is that all people tonight will realize that you must be a saint to truly be a winner.
Don't take it so hard. Games come and go, but the Lord stands forever.

Drop me an e-mail, give me a call, or just forward your bank information and I'll help myself :). Rachael is required to sell in person, so decide how many dozens of boxes you'd like and we'll chase you down at NLM. Also ask her about the new TLC Cookie Bundles program.

Using the Gym

Some students and parents want to know about using the gym after AWANA. Actually, we have already spoken about this in NL, but let me clarify. At 8:30 p.m. The gym is available if you would like to stay and play, but you need two parents to stay and supervise and lock up. We just can't play when the little kids are there. If you have no homework and you want to play a while, rope two parents into staying for a while and you are welcome to play.
Thanks

Sorry. The Dinner is Off

Sorry gang. The dinner is off.

Check your schedules for next week. Do you prefer Friday or Saturday? I will also asks the hosts what they think. I know that many of you could probably get there and drive etc, but it's not that safe on the secondaries. One of the teachers in Nashville told me that she came to Bloomington on the snow day and that our roads were worse than theirs. I want to follow church policy, but I am more interested in your safety. We can do dinner anytime. When I say anytime, I mean anytime safe. Thanks for your input and thanks for signing up to be followers of the blog and for leaving comment.

Peace and Snowdrifts

Dinner is on unless MCCSC cancels

We are on for dinner unless MCCSC cancels school. Watch this blog for info. If MCCSC cancels, however, we will reschedule. All the dinner hosts have been notified. IF WE DO HAVE THE DINNER, remember to meet at the church at five to set up carpools. If your folks want to drive a van, have them contact me. ALSO, remember to wrap a white elephant gift for the exchange.

Check the blog again tomorrow to see if we're on.

Posting to the blog

Hey guys! Here are directions for posting to the blog:

Log into your blogger account.

On the main page that appears (called the "Dashboard"), there should be a list of all of the blogs that you are a contributer of. If you got the blog invitation from Mr Mose, then this blog should be on the list.

There is a button labeled "New Post" underneath this blog on the list. Click that, and you will be brought to a page where you can write the post.

Then create your post.

Click the button that says "Publish Post" and you will have successfully published a post to the Next Level blog!

NOTE: You must first be invited to join the Next Level blog before you will be allowed to post to it or comment on other posts. Please ask Mr Mosley to send you an invite if you have not already received one.

Hope this helps!

Creating A Blogger Account

Hey guys! Here are directions on how to create a Blogger account:

You will be directed to a page that says "Create a Google Account." Follow the onscreen instructions. You will need to:

  • Enter YOUR email address (you will need to type it twice to verify it).
  • Create a password (like with the email, you will need to enter it twice)
  • Create a "display name" (which will be your username)
  • Type in the "Word Verification" code, which will be displayed onscreen (This basically ensures that an actual person is creating the account, not a computer).
  • Accept the Terms of Service
  • Click the big, orange button that says "Continue"

On the next page, you will be given the opportunity to create a blog. If you do not wish to do this, simply click the link that says "Skip this and create a blog later" (This link is located directly next to the big orange "Continue" button).

You will then be directed to the Blogger Dashboard (which is the page you will see every time you log in)

Congrats! You have now successfully created a Blogger account!

Friday is Progressive Dinner Night!

Hey Gang:

We set the second weekend of January for our Progressive dinner a month ago and it's almost here. We will meet at the church at 5 p.m. Friday 1/8 to carpool, as many as possible. Parents who would like to pilot minivans would be appreciated. Will be sending out directions and details this week so stay tuned!

At the last stop (the MacKenzie's house) we will have our traditional white elephant exchange. The twist this year is that we will trade gifts based on the outside of the box! Wrap deceptively! We will all find out together what the gifts are! Should be fun. No duct tape, Cade and Andrew. No Burger King, Coop!

Keep checking back!

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year everybody!
I hope you have had time to rest up and get ready for 2010 and the beginning of another decade. We hope to get on track right away with lessons, projects, games, singing and as much ministy as we can do effectively. Some questions we are going to be facing in 2010 would include, deciding what to do about space if God should continue to increase our size, putting together materials in print to get our name into the community as available for ministry opportunities, budgeting for regular radio commercials, developing our drama team for use in the worship service as well as in the community. We should also talk about a mission statement for NLM as well as a web presence when the church's webmaster is ready for us (and he may already be).

Please pray for Peter and Kim and Chere and me as we make some difficult decisions about what direction to take this year. It's sometimes difficult to discern what God wants us to do, especially if we allow the noise of the world to get in our way.

I also want the blog to become more than just a place to give you announcements. I would like for this to be a place where we can read devotional materials, share videos about ministry events, and even get others involved in writing and responding. I hope to make this a place with an evangelical presence and even a fun site for people around the globe to stop in and see what we're up at NLM (Het, why dream unless you dream big?).

Pray, Pray, Pray
Pray for Pastor Kammel as he makes decisions about children's ministries, and the leadership as they stand ready to help us solve our size problems. Pray that EBC will be able to give us the budget we need to increase and improve our outreach and service, pray for parents who have supported us well and made the successes we've had possible. Pray for the children in our church and community and that God would show us how best to reach them, again pray for Peter, Kim, Chere and me, and pray that God would help you focus your lives and energies toward Christ and we would succeed by doing His will (which never fails).

Resolution Time
This time of year has been traditionally a time for resolving to make changes. I have some suggestions.

Say, "Me" less and "Him" more.
Scripture encourages us to think of others before ourselves.
If we are Christ-centered and Christ-focused we will act in ways that please him. Don't worry about yourself. God's blessings follow and enrich those who do His will.
Get into the Word
Read your Bible more, ask it questions and watch God answer. Share your insights here on this blog with others in our group and those who read it. I would love to read about what the Lord is doing in your life. I know others will enjoy reading it too. Don't be shy, shout the glory of the Lord from the mountaintops (and on this blog)!

Be in church.
Determine that church is where you need to be when it's open and you can get there. Heb. 10:23-25 is clear that we are not to forsake this opportunity. "I can worship God in my own way at home," does not wash biblically. I know high school activities will get in the way from time to time. It happens. Sometimes the pastor can't be in the pulpit because of vacations, funerals weddings, yada, yada, yada. I expect to see him there most of the time. At EBC, I do. I don't think Pastor Schroeder would find me unreasonable in expecting him to be leading and teaching from the pulpit a vast majority of the time. I don't think it's unreasonable for you to expect the same of me. We prioritize Wednesdays around my house. When someone wants to meet or do something socially, or anything else, we just say, "Sorry, that's AWANA and Next Level night. How about Thursday?" You'll be amazed at how easy it is to make the Lord your priority.

Bring your friends or potential friends
Invite people to NLM and make sure you tell them what to expect. Invite kids who are new to your school and to your classes. Invite their younger brothers and sisters to AWANA, offer to give them a ride if they need one (ask your parents). The Lord may be planning to use you in 2010 to bring someone to Himself. What a privilege! Respond with a "Here am I, send me" attitude. God will bless it in ways you cannot imagine.
Talk to your parents
They are not the enemy! Share your spiritual questions and insights. Share what we talk about at NLM and encourage them to volunteer for our activities. We want them to be involved in your spiritual growth and maturity. Listen to their ideas and insights about how to grow spiritually. Share a devotional some days. Sit down and pray together, taking turns asking God to intervene for friends, loved ones, and the lost. Make lists writing down all the reasons you have to praise God and share them. It could spawn some interesting discussions.

Say, "I love you" more
Hey, it's not some sappy sentiment from movies and dramas. God has commanded us to love one another. Tell one another you love and appreciate them. People love to know they are loved. Are you afraid of what people will say? Do we care what people will say or what God has commanded? I love you and think about you all the time. I pray for you and try to think about how I can help you grow. What's the worst anyone can say? "Wow, those Emmanuel kids sure do love each other." I think I could handle that. Encourage each other and build each other up (1 Thess.5:11).

Bury it, rise above it, move on
Word has reached my royal ear (as King Louie in the Jungle Book said) that there are divisions among you (as Paul said) and it breaks my heart. How, after all we have been through and after all the truth we have learned together, could you still carry the grudges and let the pettiness put you aside? Remember these are carried and they can be dropped. Be thankful that God does not carry grudges but sees you far away and runs to you and craves your reconciliation with Him. He gives you every chance. He gave His only son so that you could be reconciled. Do you really think you have the right to stay away from NLM or avoid talking to someone because he or she said so and so? Make this the year you reconcile, understand, and rise above the pettiness and the sin that so easily besets us and makes us rusty swords for a battle that requires you to be keen and sharp. What? Do you like being upset and on edge? Cast it aside. God has said, "If you love me keep my commandments." Time to show your love for Him by showing it for your fellows. Rise above it, reconcile, understand each other and move on for the cause of Christ.
Sing, laugh live in Christ
I knew this old southern preacher who used to say, "How are people s'posed to see the value of the Christian life when all you folks go 'round lookin' like you'se weaned on a dill pickle?" He was right. When we sing sing to the Lord in church do I care what the guy behind me thinks of my singing? He'd better get ready because I'm singing! When you live in Christ you live a life of victory not defeat. Did you ever see an winning team slump off the field? They jump and shout and look like crazy people because they know they have won the victory. Christ has already won for you. Resolve to live victoriously and people will want to know about that victory and you, who have had quite a lot of evangelism training, can tell them! We are not made to live long-faced. We don't have to pray in old English and walk around in our long robes (Pie Jesu Domine WHACK! dona eis requiem...WHACK) we are smiling ear to ear because we have so much Jesus in our hearts we may explode all over the place. Lighten up, smile, laugh, sing, and rejoice. Your father is GOD and your brother is Jesus, and you are a mamber of the royal family. Start acting like it.
Give
You have reached the age where many of you are working, earning money, getting allowances, whatever. Pray about starting to give from your own earnings to your church. If you already are, great. Plan your finances based on 90 percent of what you make. Pretend that the amount you decide to give is not even a question. This is a challenge for all of us. You won't be a Level Head forever. You should prepare your heart for the big room right now. Pray about it. Talk to your folks. Give what you purpose in your heart to give, be consistent, and watch what God will do with what you give.
Anything else?
I hope you will give it all you have this year and bring your A-game to work, to school, to church, to Next Level and to your home. God has a plan for you. Pray that he would make clear what your gift is and how you can best use it. Make this year the year you take your spiritual life to the next level.
In Christ
Fearless Leader (because of Christ).
