Bowling at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Classic Lanes

Hey Gang!

After receiving several text messages and e-mails, it looks like we're bowling. Please bring your money for bowling and any snacks you might want. Bowling is $2.00 per game (shoes included). I usually count on bowling three games which takes around two hours or so.

UPDATE: Summer has a ride now. Thanks for the help.

I hope I see you there!

Bowling and Skating and Movies (Oh, my!)

Hi Gang:

I need some quick feedback about tomorrow night. I looked into skating and the price is $7.50 including skates. Unfortuntely, the open skate time is over at 7 p.m. I also called Classic Lanes where you can still bowl for $2 (2 bones). Unfortuntely (again), Classic has league play this Wednesday and limited avalable lanes. If we go at 3 p.m. he can fix us up as usual. Either way we will have to have an afternoon activity. Also, I am suffering from a slight back injury (not too bad) and if we go skting, I'll have to watch from the sidelines. I'd really rather skate another day when I can join you. I may not even be able to bowl, but at least I'll be able to interact with you. We could put both off until a better time and do a movie night but I think the Millers may be setting up at the church for the wedding this weekend.

What do you think? Please e-mail, text or call as soon as you an.

Holding off on Activities until After Christmas

Merry Christmas Everyone!

We won't be planning any activities until after Christmas. In the run-up, your parents are busy and I'm sure you are too. After Our Lord's Birthday, we'll get together a few times. In the mean time, turn your eyes on Jesus. He should be your focus this season. Gifts are nice, but THE gift has already been given and we should resolve to make next year the year we get as many people to accept the gift as possible.

Thanks for the anonymous NEXT LEVEL tie! I will wear it soon. I appreciate you all.

Be thankful, be focused and remember the Savior in these days when you are young. These holidays (read HOLY days) are set aside to honor him and you do well when you make Jesus first.

On behalf of Peter, Kim, Chere and I, have a very Merry Christmas. We love you and pray for you. Please pray for us as we seek God's will for Next Level Ministries in 2010.

In Christ.

Dollar Gift Exchange

Bring an el-cheapo gift that costs no more than a dollar (be creative). Wrap it anyway you want and we'll do an exchange and some fun stuff before Christmas. If you don't bring a gift, you can't be in the exchange! Start thinking of something cool and cheap. We'll find out if it's really the thought that counts!

This Coming Sunday We Sing! Whaaaaaat!

Hey Gang:

Remember we will be singing and doing the drama at Sunday morning service. If you attend another church, please check with your folks about allowing you to come and sing during the morning service. We'll need you here at 9:30 a.m. Sunday to get ready and set the microphones up. Then you can just join us for Sunday School in the NLM room. Please make an exception. I would love to see 40-50 people up there singing.

Prayer Request- Update

Hey guys! On Wednesday, I asked you to pray for my grandfather (Walter Ellis). I talked to my mom this morning and found out that he is doing worse than I thought. Here is the brief summary:
he has lung cancer and pneumonia (among other things). He is weak and cannot walk very far without stopping to catch his breath. He has been moved to the assisted living center (Sterling House) where my grandmother has been. I don't know how much time he has left, but it doesn't look good. Please be praying for my family while we go through this. In particular, please pray for my mom (since Walter is her dad). Thanks!

Praise the Lord! Congrats! Woo Hoo!

That was even better than last year's festival. The Spirit 95 guys were impressed and the parents were complimentary as well. Chere did a quick analysis of the registration cards and found that 20 kids came who were not from the church and who said their decision was made after either reading one of our door hangers or hearing our ad on Spirit 95. The gym looked great and the kids had a great time. The Drama team turned heads (and hearts we hope) and the word is that Pastor and Mrs. Schroeder would like them to perform Sunday morning soon. The kids received a nice bag of candy (nice job mixing that up guys) and Peter's games even impressed the game guy (who gave us a fabulous deal on the games we rented. Thanks, man). Remember to thank the Balloon Guy if we see him again (and we just might), remember the parents who gave of their time and treasure (so we could do that radio broadcast). Thanks to the folks who came in and provided security. Also thanks to Luke and Michael the college guys who were faithful from balloon filling to clean-up. We love you guys.

God blessed every aspect of this week. Even Joseph's head would couldn't stop him. He was right there on Friday night! God even postponed a soccer match so I could have my boys with me. Thanks a million. I love you guys.

Last Minute Stuff

Thanks to everyone who came out tonight and helped set up. We suspected it, but now we know. Peter is a genius. What great games he built. I am blessed to have him at my side in this ministry. Please be at the church between 5 and 5:30 p.m. I like us all to pray together before the kids come. We also need to take care of last minute details. If your folks still want to donate candy, we'll be glad to ake it, or if they want to bring their pledge check, I'll be depositing it soon. If you signed up for a name tag I have one for you. I also printed some blanks for people who forgot. If you want to wear costumes, the word is propriety! Thanks

See you tomorrow!

Time for pledges, please!

If you are one of the folks who pledged funds for the broadcast fee, it's time to send in your check. Many people asked me when I wanted the money and I told them I'd collect it the last week of October. I will be needing that soon. You could send it in with your teen Wednesday or bring it by Friday night. We appreciate all the generous gifts you have provided. We try to save our funds all year long to make this event special. Your gifts have made it even better. I can't tell you how much I appreciate you. Pete, Kim, Chere and I couldn't do it without your enthusiastic support. Please pay for a successful outreach.

Please e-mail or call ASAP to tell me if you can assist in security duty. We need EYES and EARS to make sure kids are safe here.
If you have Next Level shirts, wear them. I actually have an extra Large (not XL, just an extra one). If you would like to have it, let me know. I would need you from 5:00 to about 8:30 p.m. Friday night. Mr. Cooper has already agreed to set up sound, and some non-NLM parents have asked if they can help! Wow. We are so blessed to have you. Sneak Peek at NLM Fal Festival Commercial

Here's the commercial I recorded at Spirit 95 that will be running all next week. See if you can recognize some voices. Google won't let me upload sound without video so I had to make a little "logo movie" to go with it. Enjoy!

We need drivers tonight!

Mr. Pete tells me you were all relunctant children to help with passing out door-hangers and posters. I KNOW he must be mistaken and perhaps was even talking to a different youth ministry, because I KNOW he couldn't have asked MY Next Level group for help only to hear crickets in the room. THEY LOVE TO HELP.

Please ask your folks again if they can be at he church at 6 p.m. in their van for a 1-1.5 hour outing to distribute our posters and door hangers for Fall Festival.
If your folks are up for it, maybe we could get something to eat after? It's a school night so we shouldn't be out too late.

Come on Level Up and help out (please?).

Fall Festival Update

The days are flying away! We need names for passing out fliers and door hangers for Thursday evening. I have a parent teacher conference Wednesday (at Brown County) and I have Andrew's conference Thursday from 5-5:15 p.m. The soonest I can imagine being there is 5:45 p.m. so let's make it 6 p.m.-8-p.m. Wear appropriate clothing for the weather and bring a flashlight in case the darkness catches us on the end. I need parents with minivans so we can split up and cover lots of area. I will send one car out with posters, ut since I have Thursday off, I may do that myself. We'll see. We will have plenty to do.

Van parents please let me know if you can participate. Thanks a million. Parents can still make contributions of candy in the lobby. We will need a lot. We can buy the rest, but last year our church really came through for us.

Amazing, Overwhelming, Incredible God!

Last Wednesday we hosted...wait for it...w a i t f o r i t...

If Austin had not been at a tennis match it would have been 51. We missed you Austin. God is abundantly supplying our needs as parents and church members have given generously to our Fall Festival fund. Peter and I have been talking about games and we have some good ideas. Having an engineer for a ministry partner is the best! He has so many good ideas.

The drama team is taking their role an onstage evangelists very seriously and we can't wait to see the results. They will be seen at least twice throughout the evening and from what I've seen, it's a pretty intriguing presentation. We have a lot of drama talent

I have a long list of people to thank when this is over, but right now you know who you are. We appreciate the support.

We need candy, if you or your folks want to donate candy, please bring unopened bags of candy that not too (ready for this word?) Halloweenily wrapped (I love English). I know that will be difficult, but do your best (said the choosy beggar). We will have a plastic bin in the common area at the church. just toss candy in there.
Finally, here is the slide presentation Lauren made. We thought you might like to watch it again. thanks Lauren, it's awesome.
I love you guys, I really, really do.

It's October!

Hey Gang! The heat is on. Be talking up the Fall Festival with family and friends and remember we'll be collecting candy all this month. If your folks want guidance on this, the only restriction I could imagine is to avoid candy that's too "Halloweened Up" in its packaging. We are hoping to avoid that. Also, we may need someone with woodworking tools to volunteer to build some games. Also, if anyone has a dry basement, storage building etc. where we could keep the games after we're finished, that would also be great.
Exciting stuff!
Also, we have been over 40 people for the last few meetings. God is blessing our ministry. Let's be good at making people feel welcome and being a good example during the lesson by listening, turning off phones, and keeping the extraneous chatting to a minimum. We'll still have fun, but God's word is our priority.

Were on the way!

We now have $200 committed for the remote broadcast fee for Spirit 95 to come to our church for the fall festival. Parents who have made donations thank you thank you thank you! We still need 15 more people to donate $20 Please prayerfully consider supporting this project.

Chere and I picked up and entire bolt of cloth for the banners and some colorful cloth for lettering. We hope to make some high quality banners we can reuse every year.

Also...please respond to the idea of locking in the night of the festival. We clean up, we eat, we play, maybe see a movie and take off after doughnuts in the morning. Thoughts? Parent volunteers? Hello? Parents? I hear you breathing. :)

Love you all lots

Ministry Opportunity!

Hey Gang:
I wanted to bounce a possible service opportunity off you. It sounds like a good idea. Matt E.'s mom sent me an e-mail and the meat of it is that the ladies are putting together a special luncheon for the mentoring workshop for the ladies of Emmanuel on Saturday, September 19. She asked if the Next Level teens would help with this project.
She will need about 6-8 teens to arrive at Emmanuel around 11a.m. to start filling up water glasses, get a crash course in how to serve the meal and dessert. Theyplan to start serving the luncheon around 12:15 p.m. You would need to fill water classes, clear the tables, serve dessert and coffee and clear the tables (again). If you could stay and help clean up, that would also be much appreciated.
This would be a great way for some of you to minister to the ladies and for the ladies to see what a great group of servant teens are involved in Next Level Ministries. If you are interested in helping bless the women of Emmanuel by helping with this project, please let me know. Maybe you will get to wear one of those fancy aprons and a bow tie. Who knows?

God Opens a Window!

Okay. I'm riding on the mower this morning when it starts to sprinkle. I do what I do many days, I start to talk to Him. "Lord," I say, "If this fellowship is something you agree should happen, please hold off the thunderstorms long enough for us to meet." After I had a shower, I sat down to look at the weather to see when the thunderstorms were coming. There it was. The window I asked God to provide.
Praise the Lord, and thanks.

Posting to the Next Level Blog

Hey guys! Just wanted to tell you how to publish a new post on the blog (just in case anyone was having difficulty figuring it out).
  • Log into your blogger account.
  • On the main page that appears (called the "Dashboard"), there should be a list of all of the blogs that you are a contributer of. If you got the blog invitation from Mr Mose, then this blog should be on the list.
  • There is a button labeled "New Post" underneath this blog on the list. Click that, and you will be brought to a page where you can write the post.
  • Then create your post.
  • Click the button that says "Publish Post" and you will have successfully published a post to the Next Level blog!

Hope this helps!

PS. If you got (and accepted) the blog invitation, all that is required to comment on a post is to be logged in to your blogger account.

Camp Good News Letters

Hey Gang. Here's the address to send letters to the kids who don't get mail.

Camp Olivet
Route 1 Box 1776
Springville, IN 47462

Turns out Matt C. was right! I must have had the box number mixed up with the zip. Thanks Matt!

Please hand-write your notes, be encouraging and make sure you identify yourself as a member of Next Level Ministries, Emmanuel Baptist Church in Bloomington. Address the note to Camp Good News Camper. A sample might look like this...

Dear Camp Good News Camper:

I hope you're having a great time at camp this week learning God's word and making friends with other campers! I am a member of "The Next Level" a teen ministry group at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Bloomington. We have been praying for you and we just know you're going to come home ready to serve God and learn from His word. Go easy on that camp food and don't spend all your snack money in one day! Oh yeah, and don't forget your mosquito repellent! Maybe you can send me a note back sometime. Until then, I know God will bless you whenever you desire to learn about Him and serve Him.

God bless you!

Wait until Friday to mail your message so that it will arrive next week early. God will bless this loving outreach. Write two or three if you have time. My Mom always included a stick of gum! It sounds silly, but out of the blue it's a real treat.
